NBA 2K27 Gameplay Update (September 17, 2026)

2K has pushed a live gameplay update for NBA 2K27, dated September 17, 2026. It applied automatically around 2:00 AM PT. No download is required. Return to the Main Menu to make sure you are on the latest version.

This is the first real on-court tuning since launch, after several patches that only fixed bugs and stability. 2K says the changes are meant to better match the vision for NBA 2K27 after watching Early Access and the first week of the full release.

Shooting: Contests Matter More

Defensive contests are stronger.

  • Well-contested and low-percentage shots are less effective.
  • Wide-open looks get a slight boost.

The goal is clear: punish bad shots and reward good ones. If you have been greening over a hand in the face, expect that window to shrink. If you move the ball and take open looks, shooting should feel a bit more consistent.

Dunking: Standing Dunks and Rise Up Get Help

Standing dunks succeed more often, especially against average and below-average interior defenders.

Rise Up also matters more at Gold and above. If your big has the badge at those tiers, finishing at the rim should feel more reliable than it did at launch.

This helps interior builds that were getting stripped or blocked too easily on standing attempts.

Steals and Ball Security: Steal Rating Counts Again

2K fixed a problem where lower-rated defenders and players with depleted adrenaline could poke the ball loose as often as elite defenders.

Steal rating is now properly rewarded on contact with the ball. High steal attributes should matter more. Low steal / tired defenders should not farm strips at the same rate.

Ball-handlers should feel a little safer against random reaching. Lockdown builds with real steal rating should feel more rewarded.

Game Speed: Faster and More Consistent

Overall game speed is increased and/or standardized across all modes.

2K also fixed an issue that made pace feel different depending on the mode. Park, Rec, MyCAREER, and MyTEAM should now play at a more consistent tempo.

If games felt sluggish or uneven from mode to mode, this is the change to test first.
