NBA 2K27 Update 2.0, released October 8, 2026, is the title’s first major gameplay patch. It went live around 2 a.m. PT on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. PC and Nintendo Switch 2 receive it shortly before Season 2 opens on October 16.
Shooting is the central change. Contests now depend on defender position at release, and a defender must be more squarely in front of the shooter for the contest to register. Late or off-angle closeouts no longer suppress the shot. Open looks from capable shooters are more effective, mid-range is stronger in competitive modes, and three-point percentages were slightly rebalanced. Several shooting badges also activate on a more accurate range check. The Bad Shot Selection penalty no longer triggers on greened layups and dunks, or on reasonable mid-range and three-point attempts.
Defense and finishing move in the opposite direction. Steal animations now track the defender’s rating, and failed attempts by low-rated or out-of-adrenaline players are properly penalized. Contact dunks succeed more often at every level of Rise Up, and correctly timed dunks and alley-oops no longer miss. Passing is slightly faster, with fewer dropped catches and cleaner reads out of a body-up. CPU defense starts looser, then tightens once a player begins to score.
Known movement exploits are closed. Behind-the-back escapes no longer resolve at random, a dribble emote can no longer cancel a sprint into an unnatural stop, post self-lob spam no longer produces a travel in 1v1, and ankle-breakers now require a hard deceleration and a quick launch. Rim Guardian counters Airspace. Shooting fouls on blocked shots are less frequent.
Outside the half-court, MyCAREER Eras saves now carry across eras, allowing a full 25-year career on one file. Requirements for tiers 7 and 9 of the Physicals specialization track were lowered. Crew Divisions award 25 percent more REP and double Crew XP, align with current Rec difficulty, and enable shot meters. MyTEAM adds two Game Changer cards, a Goals reroll and a timed 2X REP, alongside Auction House fixes. PC gains faster shader installation. Switch 2 gains improved single Joy-Con support.
